The Hellenic Society of Perinatal Medicine is a scientific, non-profit making, association founded in 1976. According to its Constitution, the association aims to promote the objectives of Perinatal Medicine, that is the achievement of the best possible care for the fetus and the neonate through opinion-sharing and the exchange of knowledge. Its objective is to achieve a closer cooperation between obstetricians, neonatologists and all related specialties dealing with fetus and newborn-related health issues. The establishment of the HSPM responds to the recommendations of the European Society of Perinatal Medicine regarding the creation of National Associations of Perinatal Medicine. The Hellenic Society of Perinatal Medicine has regular members, honorary members and assessors.

Α) Regular HSPM members may become all specialized obstetricians and neonatologists who have been educated and engaged in Perinatal and Fetal Medicine. The Association welcomes also pediatricians whose subspecialties are related to perinatal period issues (pediatric neurologists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric nephrologists, doctors specialized in human development etc.), as well as doctors of other medical specialties directly related to the perinatal period (anesthesiologists, perinatal epidemiologists, perinatal pathologists, pediatric haematologists, child surgeons, geneticists etc.). Only scientists having published scientific papers in Greek or international medical journals or having presented their work on Perinatal Medicine issues at conferences organized in our country or abroad are accepted as Regular Members.

Β) The title of Assessor is open to interns in the above mentioned specialties, as well as to biochemists, biologists, bio-pathologists, nurses and midwives who have a demonstrable relationship to perinatal care but they do not meet the criteria of the first paragraph of Article 4 of the HSPM Constitution. The assessors enjoy all the rights of regular members except for the right of voting.

C) The honorary members are nominated by the HSPM Board with a 2/3 majority upon a proposal of at least 5 (five) regular members of the Association. They are prominent Greek or foreign scientists involved in Perinatal Medicine and they exempted from any membership fees.

The Hellenic Society of Perinatal Medicine, in cooperation with the Greek Neonatal Society, publishes a journal entitled "Perinatal Medicine and Neonatology".
